The new Vila Real Infantry Pcst 13, opened in June 1952, is located at the
fork of the Vila Real-Chaves and Vila Real-Braganca roads, 2 kilometers from the
center of town. It takes up an area of 101,200 square meters, of which 17,300
are covered, the remainder being occupied by the parade ground, playing fields,
streets, and a landscaped area. In keeping with a standard plan, the new post
is made up of 19 furnished and equipped buildings, including a guardhouse, head-
quarters (two-story building), an officers' club (two-story building), six bar-
racks, a regimental infirmary, refectories, a kitchen, baths, an enlisted men's
club, a barbershop, a sergeants' club, a motor-vehicle park, a horse-drawn vehi-
cle park, a veterinary hospital, stables, general stores, regimental repair
shops and classrooms, two buildings with sanitary installations, a,magazine,
and a firing range.
The project was designed by architect Antonio Lino and construction was
under the administration of the Technical Services of the Northern Office of the
C.A.N.I.E. Tot further identified7_
Similar poste already in use are Infantry 6 in Oporto and Infantry 14 in
Viseu. Other new poets are under construction it Chaves, Braga, Abrantes, Leiria,
Caldas da Rainha, Amadora, Beja, and Lisbon.
