Caption and Description: "Diagram Shoving operation of W-1 coal combine."
The combine (6) is lowered against the face by cable (2) and winch (i).
Compressed air fed through hose (4) powers the motor (8), which rotates
the cutting element (7), and moves it back and forth along the frame un
it chips off the coal. Water for allaying dust runs through the hose ?(5).
Loose coal falls through the collecting space, or "magazine" (9), into
the cars below
