NEW FLAGS FOR ARMENIAN AND KIRGIZ SSR
L omment: The Armenian and Kirgiz flags are the fourth and
fifth union republic flags to be changed within the past year. The
Belorussian flag was changed on 2' December 1951
the Uzbek flag on 29 August 195, an a z
baydzhan flag on 7 October 1952 The new flags
are more distinctive than the old, which were identical to that of
the USSR except for minor details

old flag was red with a gold hammer and sickle and the Armenian letters "HSSRII
in the upper corner near the staff.
The new Armenian flag is red with a blue center stripe running the entire
length of the flag and msI?~ng up one-fourth the width. In the upper left cor-
ner near the staff there aee a gold hammer and sickle and above them a red
five-pointed star outlined in gold. The ratio of width to length of the flag
is 1:2.
The ukase also provided that a proposal for the pertinent changes an3
amendments to Article 121 of the Armenian Constitution be introduced for con-
firmation by the Supreme Soviet of the republic

NEW FLAG 20R KIRGIZ SSR -- Frunze, Sovetskaya Kirgiziya, 25 Dec 52
By a 22 December 1952 ukase of the Presidium, Supreme Soviet Kirgiz SSR,
changes in the state flag of the Kirgiz SSR have been decreed. The old flag
was red with the gold-lettered inscription "Kirgiz SSR" in Kirgiz and Russian
in the upper corner near t,-.e staff.

The new Kirgiz flag is red with a blue center stripe running the entire
length of the flag and making up one-third the width of the flag. A narrow
who stripe, making up one-twentieth the width of the flag, divides the blue
stripe. In the upper left corner near the staff we a gold hammer and sickle
and above them a red five-pointed star outlined in gold. The ratio of width
to length of the flag is 1:2.
The ukase also? provided that a proposal for the pertinent changes and
amendments to Article 116 of the Kirgiz Constitution be introduced for confirm-
ation by the Supreme Soviet of the republic.
