Successful corn production to based on thorough soil preparation and tillage
In the fall, including deep-p.Iowing to a depth of at least 30 centimeters. For
this type of plowing Czechoslovakia uses older types of ploxs~ such as the Mara-
US-432 and the P?5-35, or the more recent P3-30Pr all of which are draw up by
-the Ilr-54 or the ICD_35 crawler tractors and,, in very benvy soils, by the 5-80.
This type of machinery is readily avai:.able in all the normal beet-growing areas
oP Czechoslovakia.
In the spring? tillage begins with leveling or dragging the soil. Usually
the Hrouda 6~meter drag or the newer and heavier TS-5 drag ie used. Both of
these machines have been used in combination (a88regat) with harrows and 8raw
by the KD-35 or the D^.?5l, crav:ier tractors. The crawler tractor has proved
more efficient for this ope: at'_on that, the wheeled type.
Just before the ;orn pianting~ the soil is stirred and fluffed to a depth
of 1D centimeters. In light sollsj heavy harrows are used for this purpose,
while ~n heavy soils, field cultivators with spearhead shovels are used. Both
the KN-170 cul.ttrator drawn by a Zetor-25 tractar and the tractor-drawn univer-
sal KUZ_2.8 cultivator are currently in use. A spring ,tooth field cultivator
to be draw by the 2etor~35 tractor is Sn production. ~itTier the KUZ-2.8 cul-
tivator or the HN-hi hiller i.s used Por marking roxs prior to planting.
Corn is planted with regular seeding machines [grain drills?j to xhich
"Vagner bootsy" developed by Engineer Vagnery are attached. The adaptation is
made locally.
When the corn le'~-10 centimeters tall, cultivation xith the KPN_7 culti-
vator9 set for 70??centimeter rows and draw by the Zetor 25-K~ a cultivator
tractor- begins, The Research .T_nstitute for Mechanization of Agriculture is
currently developing an adjustable frame for the cultivator xhich would per-
mit the cultivator shovels to be moved to varying widths (up to 50 centimeters),
thus leaving a 10-centimeter protective strip on each side of the plants, This
cultivator is equipped with three soil-working membexts; one spearhead shovel
in the front center and two slanted blades slightly to the rear and. to the sides.
