OFFICIALS ONLY SECURITY INFORMATION COUNTRY Albania/Yugoslavia SUBJECT Yugoslav Policy toward Albania REPORT DATE DISTR. 15 February 1953 NO. OF PAGES REQUIREMENT NO. RD REFERENCES THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITIVE. THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 1. Traditional Yugoslav policy toward Albania has not changed. It is still dedi- cated to the acquisition of Albania as an integral part of Yugoslavia. Tito regrets having opened Albanian schools in Yugoslavia and has begun to change them into Turkish schools. All Albanian teachers have been obliged to become Yugoslav citizens or leave Yugoslavia. This policy has caused dissatisfaction within the Albanian communities in Yugoslavia. 2. The UDB (Yugoslav intelligence service) organizes daily propaganda missions into Albania. Two or three man teams composed of Albanians spread propaganda leaflets written in the Albanian language and favoring Yugoslav policy. General Dusan Mugosa, who is directing the activities of the Albanian Prizren Committee, has in- formed Apostol Tenefi, Lufti Spahiu, and the other leaders of the Committee that Yugoslavia is providing, material aid for the liberation of Albania and asks nothing in return. Yugoslavia's true intentions, however, is to use the Prizren Committee for the integration of Albania into the Yugoslav republics. SECRET/CONTROL - U. S.
