The Gabrovo Military Factory is located approximately one kilometer north of the
Gabrovo (N h2-52, E 25-18) railroad station, on the Gabrovo-Tsareva Livada (N IE2-56,
B 25-29) road., and occupies an area of 1.,600 are. The factory is subordinate to
the Ministry of War and works exclusively for the Armed Forces.
The factory consists of the following buildingsa
a. A 2-story building, 140 by'L5 meters in size, used for the manufacture of
leather goods and clothing;
b. Two buildings, 40 by 18-20 meters in size, used as quarters for workers and
:troops; and
c. One building., 60 by 18-20 meters in size., used as quarters for workers and
troops.
Personnel
The following personnel work at the Gabrovo Factory:
a. Marin Danev,, Intendance Colonel,, commander of the factory;
b. Major Ognyanov, political director;
c. An unidentified captain, commander of the troops;
Vitan Todorov, factory chief;
e. Thirty chief technicians of sections;
f. Four principal shift chiefs; and
Ten shift foremen.

There are two 8-hour work shifts per day, and a total of 2,500 workers.
Production and Equipment
The factory is divided,into two sections, as follows:
a,. The leather goods section which manufactures shops and other leather articles
such as shoes,s, boots, bags, belts, straps, cartridge belts, holsters, etc., for
the Army; and
The textile section (tailor shop) which produces woolen overcoats and winter
uniforms for all the Armed Forces.
The monthly production of the first section is as follows:
.a. Military shoes, 9,000 pairs;
be Army boots, 14,000 pairs (the plan calls for 5,000 pairs);
c. Cartridge belts, 11,500 (the plan calls for 12,000),;
d. Pistol holsters, 6,300 (the plan calls for 6,000);
e. Belts, 12,800 (the plan'calls for 12,000).
The monthly production of the second section is as follows:
a. Overcoats, 12,000 (the plan calls for 124,000); and
b. Winter uniforms,, 12,500 (the plan calls for approximately 15,000)
The first section, the tannery, is located on the first floor of the factory and
is equipped with 120 cutting and sewing machines., in addition to 25 spare machines.
Besides this equipment,., the plant is equipped with 400 shoemakers' standspand 20
large tables for making cartridge belts and holsters.
The second section, the tailor shop, is located on the second floor of,the factory.
It is equipped with 200 sewing machines, 32 machines for hemming and button-hold,,,
'r'ind 20 machinee'for cutting cloth. In addition to the machinery, this section is
equipped with 30 tables four or five meters in size for the tailors, and 20 tables,
10 meters in size, with 20 machines, for the cutters.
10. Raw materials, including leather, hides, cloth, and yarn, are supplied by the
tannery and textile factories of 4abrovo, upon presentation pf the necessary
procurement documents.
Salaries and Living Conditions of the Workers

31. The factory employs a total of 2,500 workers, specialists, and office employees`.
The.average salary of the workers is 320 lava per day, while specialists receive
110 lava per day. Workers with children receive idditi-6* 1, monthly allotments,
as follows:
a. For the first child, 150 lava;
For the second child, 100 lava;
as 'For the third child, 250 leva; and
For the fourth child, 500 leva.

12. Money is withheld from the wages of workers for the following:
a. Insurance and pension premiums,;
be Party and union dies; and
c. Communal affairs.
A total of approximately 1,800 (sic) levy is withheld monthly from each workerts
wages. Bachelors must also pay 500 to 800 leva per month for the "ergenski danuk"
(bachelor's tax).
13. Workers quarters consist of 2-room apartments with kitchen, bath, and corridor.
Bachelors have individual rooms vrith one bath for every three rooms. The sound
.floor of one of the buildings is occupied by troops.
iL'. Meals served at the factory are good and cost 6,000 leva per month (with coffee)
e . 5,500 leva per month (without coffee). The workers pay l,200`leva per month
for their rent (including light and water), and the bachelors 800 leva per month.
15. In order to meet expenses, all workers must work overtime. In their free hours,
once a week, the workers attend a Party meeting and a union meeting. All members
must be present.
Miscellaneous
16. For transporting goods, the factory uses the motor vehicles of the Army units
which are stationed in Gabrovo.

A 150-man soldier unit is used for transporting raw materials and finished goods.
18. The fa! tc ry is not equipped for air defense. Fire prevention measures are one
fireman unit equipped with a water pump and ladders.
