A recent resolution drawn up by the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party, and approved by the Government, assigned District Party secretaries the task of organizing a new type of Border Militia which will be responsible for the national security of the borders. This new Militia. will be subordinate to Minister of Interior Georgi Veselinov Tsankov and will be commanded by Kosovski, Deputy Minister and former Communist Party Secretary of the Vidin district. 2. Parliamentary Deputy Vitko Ivanov, better known under his battle name of "Bako"; has been appointed chief of 25X1 this national and Communist Party security service as well as of the northwest border sector of Bulgaria (Vidin, Kula, Belogradchik, Mikhaylovgrad, and Berkovitsa districts). 3. The new militia members are to receive 15,000 leva per month in addition to their board, clothing, and the right to first quality food products without ration cards. They have furthermore been promised a bonus of 10,000 leva if they succeed in capturing or killing anyone crossing or attempting to cross the Bulgarian-Yugoslav border, or if they succeed in identifying or capturing elements who are organizing illegal groups which are hostile to the Communist regime.
