On 26 August 1952, a Hungarian military office was stationed in building No 3, DosatGyoergy Street, former Regi Vasar Square, in Keesxemet (Y 6/t 95). The builuing, which was partly three-, and partly two-story and yes formerly a secondary school, was bordered by Dime Gyoergy Street on the south, Maria Xoerut on the east and Kuelsoe Szabadsag Street on the north. It had a large yard with poplars which had a brickwall, about 2.3 neters high, cm the beck. In the morning, three entrances were guarded by sentries wearing green epaulets and, in the afternoon of the same day, by sentries with red epauJets. Three Pobyeda type sedans driven by soldiers wearing crimson, green or red epaulets, were parked in front of the building le) ich appeared rather empty. ro officera were seen leaving or enter. ng. On 26 'August 1952, the new Hungarian barracks installation on the southside of IzsakieStreet, between the former Erzsebet barracks and the Soviet motor vehicle- repair shop, appeared unoccupied. An Hungarian sentry armed with e submachine gun and wearing. black epaulets with a lightning-flash 'cluster as insignia, stood at the northern entrance of the instellation. - wh3le some Hungarian soldiers were near the kitchen,- In the afternoon of 22 August 1952, four Hungarian weapon carriers with soldiers wearing green epaulets were seen in the streets of the towri. c4 white C was painted on the windshields of these vehicle which had a plate with the incription Tann3o Kocsi (driver_treinine: ear)eat.t4e, back?. 4upgarian,TroopeirjOg In the afternoon of 24 August 1952, the new Artillery Barracks in Cegled (Q 48/0 08) on the southwest side of Toerteli Street and about 1 km east of the crossing of this street and the Cegled - Kecskemet railroad line eppeared to be vacant. Scaffolds and building material could be seen at various places in the barracks area. Source learnt from a Cegied resident that, in the spring of 1952, many Hungarian artillery troops were quartered in the barracks installation. A Hungarian artillery senior lieutenant who was billeted in the house of this resident, went with his unit to practices in the Koeroeli forest in May 1952. This officer came home every two or three weeks. Hungarian Troup in Bud4pp.st,? Ealatonszentlyeargy_apd,Naallspergesa 5 On 21 August 1952, eource saw a garage about 50 meters long, at No 4. Kaplar Street in Budanest. A Hungarian soldier wearing brown service color, ,stood in front of this garage, while about 20 Hungarian soldiers and eight weaponq carriers were inside. Numerous other vehicles were parked in the yard.' o. On 26 August 1952, about 10:30 a.m., a Hungarian military train consisting of about 30 cars, stood at a ramp of the Nagykoeroes Railroad Station - (4 -48/0.06). About 250 Hungarian soldiers wearing red service color and carrying Mal pack were waiting on the ramp. Jeeps, weapon carriers and - GMC type -trucks were entrained on open flatcars. -4 ? In the evening of 39 August 1952, about 50 unarmed Hungarian soldiers with baggage were seen in the waiting room of the Balatonszentgyoergy Railroad Station (Y 4/A 59). About the half of them had red service color, ihtle about 35 men wore green and some others black, crimson or dark blue service eolor. The soldiers said that they came from Kenthely (Y 4/V 40) and were on a 10 day furlough to do agricultural work. ) Hungarian mi.11tangheagiguarters in Kecskemet. 8, Prior to September 1951, a Hungarian corps headquarters was stationed in the former school on the northwest side of Regi Vasar Square in Kecskemet. It was guarded by infantrymen wearing ?Teen service color. Hungarian signal troops wearing blue service color were quartered in a smaller barracks instal- lation on the south side of lzsaki StrNist west of the railroad line. 9. In September 1951, the Hungarian station headquarters was on the northwest side of Nagykoeroesi Street. The recruiting office of the station was located in a building on the west olde of Laszlo Karoly Street, not far from Csongradi Street. This building was marked by. a ioorplate. Commegt. The present information again confirms that the former secondary school at No 3 Dczaa Gyoergy Street ani the new barracks installation on the southern side of the Izsaki Street are occupied by Hungarian troops. The secondary school also continues to quarter the corps headquarters located there. The new barracks installation ol Izsaki Street seems) to permanently quarter a signal unit, possibly the 'corps signal regiment of corps signal battalion., The black service color of the sentry reported in paragraph 2 'probably :was an error in observation aed, actually, was the dark blue service color of the signal troops. This assumption is supported by the lightning- -flaeh cluster insignia. The fact that the former secondary school as well as the new barracks installation looked empty, nay indicate that at the time of the observations mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2, corps headeuarters and '5,ECRET/ Approved For Release 2002/07/12 : CIA-RDP80-00810A000200170004-7 Approved For Release 2002/07/12 : CIA-RDP80-00810A000200170004-7 SECRET; ?3? signal unit were out for practices and only reserve detachments were left. 19eiranent. The information indicates that the new Artillery Barracks on Toerteli Street is probably scheduled to quarter a Hungarian artillery unit. It is believed that this unit waE stationed in a surver camp in /ay and would return to the barracks installation after sumer training and 25X1A possible fall exercises. 3. The "garage is apparently the garage of the Honved Yinistry which has been carried as located on Ezredes Street. Cn the basis of the present information, the garage is believed to also have an entrance on Kepler Street which is parallel. This information again indicates that at least temporarily, a Hungarian unit is stationed in Nagykoeroes. The red service co_lor possibly indicates an artillery unit. 5. The information indicates that Hungarian troops of different arms are stationed in Keszthely. SECRET/. Approved For Release 2002/07/12 : CIA-RDP80-00810A000200170004-7 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A
