1. 'The 1.Pighter Division was created in the summer of 1949 from the former 1 Fight-
..er Flotilla. Originally the 1 Fighter Division had only two regiments, organized
from. the two groups of the former flotilla. At the beginning of 1950, a third
fighter regiment was created. The Division headquarters are located in Bucharest
and the following are staff officers: Commander - Lt. Colonel Anton Stefanescu;
Poliui~9al Commissar Major Ion Galis; Commander of the Rear - Lt. Colonel
Boris Avramescu; Technical. Service -- Major Mihai Fenici, an air maintenance offi-
cer and career officer who was commissioned in 1932; he is anti-Communist;
Counterintelligence Officer Lt. Ion Bala.
2. Organization of the Di-vision
a. The 1 Fighter Regiment, Clinceni Airfield, Bucharest. The Commander is
Captain Gheorghe Serghie and the Political Commissar is Lt. Laurentiu Manus,
The regiment is composed of three squadrons of three sections each, four
planes in each section. Equipment: thirty Messerschmidt-109 planes, and
ten IAR-80 planes.
b. The 2 Fighter Regiment, Rosiorii-de-Vede Airfield. The regimental staff is
composed of: Commander -- Captain Gheorghe Lupsa; Assistant for Flight Tech-
nique - Lt. Major Ion Florea; Chief of General Staff - Lt. Major Laurentiu
Nicodim. The regiment is composed of three squadrons, two of which are com-
posed of three sections with four planes in each section. The third squadron
had only its personnel and no planes. Equipment: fifteen Messerschmidt-109
planes and ten IAR-80 planes.
c. The 3 Fighter Regiment, Targsor Airfield near Ploesti. The Commander is
Major Lehidov and the Assistant for Flight Technique is It. Cristea Chirvasuta.
The regiment is composed of two squadrons of three sections each, four planes
in each section. Equipment: ten IAR-80 planes, five Messerschmidt-10.9
planes, three Nardi planes, and two PO.-2 planes.
