Of the state-owned locomotives, 35 were parked as a reserve f or the Directorate General, Railroads, Perlin, and 7 for the regional railroad headquarters. 9- 3. Of the column locomotives, 179 were operational and 12$ were being kept cold as a reserve. 3 4. Fifty-one foreign-owned locomotives were deactivated in November 1952. 4 5. One newly built locomotive of type 99 was delivered by the Lowa firm in Babelsberg to the Dresden regional railroad district. 5 6. A total of 139 locomotives of various types was hired out to industrial enterprises for factory requirements.6 1.I,- -..~ornt. --- __ ------- As compared with the last tabulation of October, the number of state-owned locomotives remained constant; 8 locomotives from the park of damaged locomotives were transferred to the park of operational locomotives; the number of serviceable locomotives increased by 1.2 number of coal- dust fired locomotives increased by one. e The total 25X1 number of column locomotives remained constant , but number of servicable locomotives increased by 10 units. The total of foreign-owned locomotived decreased by 51 units which were deactivated. See also paragraph 4 of the present report. The total number of narrow-gauge locomotives increased one 750 min gauge locomotive. 25X1 2. 1 [Comment. The locomotive reserves of the Directorate General, Railroads, er n, an and the regional railroad headquarters decreased by 22 and 13 units respectively, probably in connection with operational difficulties. Comment. The number of operational column locomotives rose by 40 un, s, wide that of locomotives kept in reserve dropped by 30. The difference in these figures is because of the increase of the park of serviceable locomotives by 10 units. 4. Comment. These locomotives were probably cannibalized for spare parts and then scrapped an order to reduce the park of damaged locomotives. 5. Comment. The.type 99 locomotive is a narrow-gauge locomotive with of 'j0 mm. To date, only narrow-gauge locomotives have been built for the East German railroads in East German railroad car factories. G. ommentt. In October, a total of 131 locomotives was hired out to zn s ria1. enterprises. 25X1 SECRET) Approved For Release 2004/01/21 : CIA-RDP80-0081OA000300230005-8
