.1. WANG Ts'ung-wu (3769/1783/0710), head of the organization Department of
the North China Bureau, said in a report to the Peiping municipal party
committee that about 105,000 new Chinese Communist Party members were
recruited from July to October 1952.' Their recruitment came during a
period of consolidation which called for an increase in party membership
and a purger of undesirables.
2. Seventy percent of the new members were from workers' families; twenty
percent of this group had been raised to party membership from the Youth
Corps The breakdown by area was as follows:

WANG estimated an additional.55,OQO members would be recruited by the
end of the year. He said the new recruits would strengthen' the,, basic party
organizations and assure completion of the state economic reconstruction
program during 1953.
