Prior to 7 January 1953, no major changes were discernible in the occupation of the Perleberg military post. No arrivals or departures were observed. The German civilian workers were dismissed effective 15 December. Sedan occu-ied by a colonel who, allegedly, 25X1 was senior officer of the post was seen at all the installations of the post. From 3 to 5 December, the soldiers were marched to the Baler- teich restricted area in groups of 40 to 50, for medical examinations 25X1 2. From 15 DeceMber 1952 to 7 January 1953, the following observations were made in the Artillerie Kaserne: lisamlarl, At about 9 a.m., four platoons of 30 to 33 men each were seen at basic training with rifles and submachine guns, and 1 officer and 8 soldiers received instruction on 2 x 76.2-mm field "fans. About 30 troops practiced mounting and dismounting on T-34 taak Three groups of 12 soldiers each practiced the emplacing of heavy machine guns. Two officers and 14 troops were laying light field cables. Three officers and two groups of 35 EM each, and 1 officer and 34 EV were assembled around two sand tai/les in the barracks yard. At about 1 p.n., two details of 30 to 40 soldiers each, and each detail equipped with 5 light machine guns, 2 commarsler's telescope , rifles and submachine runs; and three details of 30 to 40 soldiers each, with each detail equipped with 2 heavy machine guns, rifles and submachine guns; and a detail with a mortar heavier than a 100-mm mortar entered the installation. 16 December, At 9 p.a., 16 details, each of aboqt 30 to 40 soldiers, armed with small arms left toward Wittenberga, appaeently for a night march. 25X1 18 Dec-ober.. At about 2 p.sa, T-34 tanks and T-34/85 tanks 25X1 1 left the installation for 3i.iving practice. 20 Deoembera At about 9 a.m., three groups, each consisting of 35 soldiers practiced on 3 x 76.2-mm field guns and 6 heavy machine guns in the barracks yard, Five groups were seen at drill, partly with rifles, and two groups were at the sand table. 21 December. On 16 December, 5 details, each equipped with 6 light Machine guns rifle and submachine guns; 2 details with a total of 4 heavy machine guns; and 6 details with firing equipment and email arms were seen coining from the training area of the Flieerhorst Kaserne. At about 9 p.1T, on 2 January, 5 trucks each occupied by about 20 to 24 troops, left tha Artillerie Kaserne toward Havelberg. About 1.0 minutes later, they were followed by 8 trucks occupied by 20 to 25 troops each, which cane from the direction of the Fliererborst Kaserne. They, apparently, left for a night practice. 4. Prior to 29 Deconber, the Artillerie ',raceme appeared to be occupied to capacity. About 95 percent of the 'windows were lighted at dusk. An interpreter repeatedly mentioned Colonel Darcbesh (Thu) and Lieutenant Colonel Salmiel (fnu). At about 9 a. on 19 December, five details of soldiers wearing red-bordered blick epaulets with artillery insignie? armed with light aortars, light machine guns, submachine gum and carbines left the installation toward the post training area. They returned et about 3 p.m. From 22 to 24 December, about 150 troops wearing red-bordered black epaulets with artillery Insignia daily left the installation. They were armed similar to the details mentioned above.. At about /1 a.m. on 25 and 26 December, T-3085 taaleol Ileft the installation.
