The torpedo shop near Kaliningrad occupies the site of two former factories situated between the Pr-gel River and the railroad line from Pi?i bksk,?.~N54-44, E20-01), tt two km east of the railroad station in Kaliningrad (N54-42, E20-30)0 ( p a s No. 1 on _:tch No. 1, Page ) Hi st0U Production 3. Torpedoes of various types are overhauled, cleaned, rendered safe, dismantled, and assembled after replacement of unserviceable parts. Torpedoes were not recharged ire: r 25X1 4. including 15 to 20 soldiers. In July 1951 all the Germans were replaced by ;Sovi*tA. Work was done in two shifts with abort 300 workers in each shift. The officer in command of the shop was a Major Bblgev, (fnu), a. Sovi* i ,- Under him were 600 workers, including 100 Germans and 30 to 50 i ongols; the rest were Soviets.. Power 5. As the electric power supplied by the town was too weak, the shop had two Diesel engines of its own to provide power for lighting and machinery. The overhauled torpedoes were generally taken directly from the shop by small freighters very rarely they were shipped by rail. 25X1 Security Measures The shop was surrounded by, a barbed-wire fence about two meters high. There were no vatchtamwers. Inside the shop there was a Soviet military guard about 15 to 20 strong, with red tabs but no numbers on their shoulderboards :. When the entrances were open, they were guarded by single sentries armed with rifles. All entrances were seldom open at the same time. Union Foundry 9. Grounds of a former factory about 300 x 200 an. B. Grounds of a former factory,about 150 x 100 m. Some of the buildings are of brick; these include repaired buildings. Others are newly-built from rubble. The buildings are in a bad state and the work is rough. The roofd are of pantiles. 1. Building about 40 m long 20 m wide. The north part is a hall and the south part is a house with two rows of windows in which are quartered the guard and some offices. The torpedoes, which arrive in a very dirty and battered condition, are rough-cleaned in the hall. 2. Hallyabout 60 in long,in which torpedoes are dismantled and their parts are cleaned. 3. Hall about 80 x 30 m. South part (broken line on, sketch) destroyed,. Assembly of torpedoes and fitting of new parts. Hall,about 35 x 15 mused for inspection of overhauled torpedoes. 5. Hall,about 35 x 15 mused for repair of old parts and fitting of new parts. 6. Power station. 7. Hut, about 25 x 10 ma, occupied by the management. Shed,about 35 x 20 m?for storage of torpedoes before and after overhauls. The area north of the shed contained a dump of totally unserviceable torpedoes and torpedo scrap. 9. Guard house on the island facing the shop. All. ships and boats intending to berth off the shop had.to report here. 10. A motor boat, always stationed here to contra l arriving vessels.
