Soviets (claimed total disbelief in Soviet propaganda conoern-
ing the Jewish doctors, plot. They all agreed that the purpose of the drive is
to discredit Jews (who remain internationalists) and the West, and to alienate
the Soviet people from the West through fear of their -own government. Soviet
officials admit the charges are not true but they say that the truth is immaterial.
At the time of the Yugoslav-Soviet break, top Soviet officials told the Yugo-
slavsr "It does riot matter if the Soviet charges against Yugoslavia are untrue.
All that matters is whether or not the claim is in the interest of the Soviet
State."
Stalin wishes to widen the barrier between the USSR and the West in order to
isolate the Soviet people from Western contamination.
