The lugger antaiiiitter, built by the RFT Funkwerk Koepenick, was used in a
trial run from Rostock as far as to the polar sea during the period I to 28
October 1952. Tie transm:tter was developed by Engineer Richter (fnu) with
Engineers Grirm and Retz participating In the trial l. The allwave receiving
set was used during the test which p:-ovcd very satisfactory. Radio cormunica.
t-i.on was possible from the lugger to the Funkwerk, on a frequency of 4 mega-
cycles on a 24,.-hour schedule.
2, An improved model of the lugger tranarritter was completed by the Abteilung
Schiffsfunk (Ship Radio Department) Ln December 1952. The wiring was slight-
Jy- changed in the second model and the design considerably in-proved by the use
of three mechanically coupled revolving coils (mechanisch gekoppelte Spul en-
revolver) resulting in an extremely accurate frequency adjustment.
3. The improved transmitter ' as also usf:d as control stage (Steuerstufe) for
the KN 3 transmitter which was equipped in the terminal stage (Endatufe)
with a 782 Telefunken tube. With respect to the power supply a capacity of
only 3 kw was provided though a capacity of 6 kw, at 24 megacycles, was
echieved in preliminary tests with the Kai 3 transmitter.
