On 24 October 1952, the framework of the new ammunition depot. at Bad Saarow on the premises of the former AAA testing station was completed The date for the opening of the depot was fixed for 21 December 1952. 2. At the beginning of November 1952, 1.3 large bunkers, each 12 x 24 miters, and 4 small bunkers, each 8.5 x 12 meters, had been established in the new Bad Saarow ammunition depot. Some of the bunkers were not roofed over. A spur track from the depot to the Bad Saarow railroad station was available. The installation was enclosed by a double barbed-wire fence placed at a distance of 50 meters and 12 searchlights were set up. 3. In August 1952, source: learned from an informant that the am unition depot at Torgau-Sueptitz consisted of a bunker section, and,an .munition- filling plant which was in the former ammunition filling station. The bunker section covers the western part of the depot and consisted of above ground bunkers provided with iron gates with 1a utice fences. They were established in two rows along the concrete roads which traverse the depot. The depot is located in a wood. The depot stores only captured German ammunition which is shipped in sealed boxcars at irregular intervals. The ammunition is cleaned aLo . reconditioned at Tor a . A VP deserter stated in September 1952 that, in 1949, the Soviet personnel at the Torgau-Sueptitz ammunition depot numbered about 700 men. The depot proper was guarded by Soviet soldiers only while the outside guard was performed by VP men. According to rumors, large amounts of artillery ammuni- tion, mortars ammunition, ammunition for rocket launchers, tanks and AAA were stored in the depot. 5.
