1. The Gavril Genov Paint Factory in Ruse was constructed approximately 30 years ago by
Iskovich Levi, the former proprietor, in collaboration with German technicians. In
19 ?L1, the factory was requisitioned by the Germans. In 1947, it was nationalized by
the Communists, named Zavod Gavril Genov, and enlarged considerably,

3. At present 400-500 workers are employed at the paint factory. The following are the

4. In order to keep up with the Bulgarian need for cans for the conservation of foods and
materials, production has been particularly increased in the lithography section. Con-
tainers for canning tomato sauce and paste are also produced by this factory. The
annual production of cans amounts to approximately 500,000 pieces of 5-kilogram
capacity. The best tomato sauce (i.e., the thickest) is boxed for export, mainly to
the USSR, but lately also to Czechoslovakia. The raw materials necessary for the man-
ufacture of the metal containers is 'imypdrted 'f'rom the USSR.
5. The production of paints amounts to 450,000 cans per year. The necessary raw materials
are partly imported from Czechoslovakia and partly obtained from the mines in the
mountains at Ruse. The taints are, for the most part, exported to the USSR; the paints
held for domestic use are taken over by the Armed Forces and by the more important
services; throughout the country.
