(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 25X1 25X1 2. 25X1 25X1 31 March 1953 1 25X1 about 2,000 Tibetan militiamen, including approximately 1,400 infantry and 500 cavalry troops, were ih.spected by the-Tibetan Militia Headquarters of the Choni (N 34-39p E 103-12) Autonomous Area. Following the inspection, CHOU Hsiang-ch'u (0719/4382/0443), deputy commander of the Kansu Military District., told the militia, which was under the command of YANG Fu hsing (2799/1788/5281), that in order to achieve stability and peace in the Tibetan Autonomous Area, it was necessary to eliminate the partisans of MA Pu-fang. The Kansu Military District gave 200 rifles to the Tibetan militia and declared the time for the militia to start its anti-guerrilla operations. 25X1 Comment. The Choni Area, which is inhabited principally by Tibetans, is south. of Linhsia (N 3536, E 103-03), west of Minhsien (N 34-29, E 104-01), and northwest of Hsiku (N 33-48.,- E 1014.22), in the border area of Kansu, Tsinghai, and Szechuan.
