Members of the Air Force stationed'at the field wore uniforms of the
same olive drab as infantry troops, except for a distinctive'lapel
patch of blue with a propellor emblem in the center.
Winters-in the area of the airfield were mild, with little snow.
However, lakes in the region remained frozen most of the winter.
The area had little fog. Summers were very nice., with little rain.
In fast, owners 'of vineyards in the vicinity often complained, about
the. lack of rain. and short draughts. Prevailing winds were from the
south.
