Jews, Armenians, and Moslems in the Soviet-Iranian fontier area are complaining openly that they are being discriminated against by the Soviet Government. 2. Colonel Sibolskiy, Commander of the Border Guards in the Lenkoran area since 1951, and Captains Kerenskiy and Vasilovskiy have been replaced. 1 All of these officers are Jewish. 3. General Yahya Eliasov, a Sunni Moslem and high-ranking oil expert at Baku, was sent to Moscow on 29 January, 1953 under arrest. 4. Only Belorussian and Ukrainian workers are now employed in the oil refineries at Baku; formerly almost all such workers were Armenians or Moslems. Jewish doctors and nurses have been dismissed from hospitals in the Azerbaydzhan SSR. 6. Iranian Azerbaydaar who fled to the USSR after the collapse of the Pishevari regime in 1946 have been denied Soviet citizenship except in cases where they have married Soviet nationals.
