THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 1. The Macedonian state prison, which is located near Skopije, has approximately,, 19500 male prisoners. Although the prisoners are supposed to be 20 years of age or older, many of them appear to be younger. The warden of the prison is a former workman. 2'. Living conditions in the prison' are good. The bread ration is sufficient, and the prisoners are served meat twice a week. 3. The prisoners are obliged to work and are paid for their work. Some of the prisoners work in the prison workshops and some work in the. fields. Part of their pay is given to them in cash, part is sent-:to their families,, and part is withheld so that they will have some capital when they leave prison. The prison has a woodworking shop and a workshop where beds are made. The products of the prison workshops are sold in a sales room of the prison. The prisoners receive medical attention from a prisoner who is a doctor. During the Bulgarian occupation of Macedonia, the doctor was mayor of Bitolj.
