On 2 March 1953, T-34 tanks stood east of Camp Nochten at the Weiss- 25X1 wasser troop training grounds. On 3 March, 30 soldiers practiced aiming with rifles in the eastern section of Camp Nochten, while about 60 other soldiers organized in groups apparently received instruction in the traininp area. e w on 5 March, 4 trucks and 6 T-34 tanks and a tank chassis were detrained at the Weisswasser railroad station. The vehicles drove toward Camp Nochtenol 2, On the morning of 4 March, a convoy of 20 trucks and another convoy of 20 to 30 side ar motorcycles drove toward Cottbus along the Spremberg- 25X1 Cottbus road, the sawmill was closed. an _a all. workers had been discharged. It was said that the residents living in the vicinity of the mill would be resettled in Mecklenburg, as 125X1 area was to be vacated for the Soviet army. 4 At about 4:30 p.m. on 5 March, a troop train which came from the direction of S rer!ber 3 was detrained at the Weisswasser railroad station. T-34 tanks anks 1 tank chassis and truck with about 30 soldiers wearing red-bordered black epaulets with tank insignia were unloaded an::. subsequently marched toward Carr Nochten0 Petween 10 a.m. and noon on 5 3.arch, 2 officers and about 20 soldiers drilled at group level on the tank firing range, while about 20 other soldiers eng25X1 in entrenching work along the southern border of the fixing range, At about 10 a.m. on 9 March, firing td th live ammunition, apparently by tanks, was heard for about 10 minutes.
