On V4 February 1953, ?arce van-like trucks were observed around a jet 25X1
bomber which had made a belly landing at Welzoa airfield. The plane
was 150 to 200 motors west of the radar set which was on the nrr thern
edge, of the field. At 11945 a.m. on 28 February, an UIL-2.8 plane tr ok
off from 'the field. There was a 1/10 overcast and a visibility cf 10 .
Additional tc -offs were made by jet bombers in the early after4oon. A
biplane and 13 IL-28 and UM- 28 planes were parked at the field

the radar set, which was previously

located on the northern edge of the field, *%,as about 200 maters southwest
of the Welzow-Noupetershain railroad line, 100 to 150 meters ncr theast
of the northern edge of the runway.

On 28 February, about 30 mm wearing red-bordered bhX cks epaulets were
engaged in ci, gging.A:t gun emplacements in the eastern section of the field,
along the Welzow-Woupetershain railroad line. Between the,spur track and
the eastern taxiway, construction work was under way and individual founda-
tion walls of buildings were observed.

In the afternoon of 25 February, 12 aircraft, probably y jet bombers were
observed in the southwestern corner of the field. Three twin-engine planes,
probably B-25s, were also parked at the field. At about 3 p.m., tsc twin

engine planes landed one after the other and, subsequently, were parle d mar
the other aircraft. Between 3 and 6 p.m., some take- offs were made by a thir

twin-engine plane which circle d over the field. After each landing, the
crew was exchanged.1

The radar set which was previously located in the northern section of the
field was observed aboat 50 maters west of its Iarevious location. Another 2
radar set was about 200 meters southeast of the ncr thern end of the runway.

Between 27 February and 3 March, a shipment with bombs daily arrived in
,,Jelzow and was shunted to the spur track of the airfield, where it was
unloaded inmrsdiately. t
