building firm), Arad (the former Via building firm), Timisoara, Brad, Sibiu
(also the former Via building firm), and Bacau,
2e The Sibiu regional branch has carried out the following work in the Sibiu
and Caranseios areap:

A concrete halls 40 by 80 meters, was built for the Independenta Factory
(formerly the Rio ger Machine Works). This factory, which is located in
the lower town of Sibiu (Orasul de Jos) on the Cibinul, employs 1,200
workers. It produces diesel engines (16 ~o 20 h,po), cast iron pipes,
threshing machines, and other agricultural machinery, Power is obtained
by burning methane gas.
b, A transformer to step down 60,000 volts to 2,000 volts for lighting
purposes was built at Margineni, near Sibiu*
c, The municipal power stationa Sibiu, near the Orasul de Jos station, was
repaired. This power station has five large diesel engines,.one of which
is a Sulzer 3,,500 h.p with an NGA generator,
Two Siemens Maerz steel furnaces, a T, otory hall for steel pipes, and
shower rooms for workers were built at the Otelul Rosu Steel Works
(formerly Auschnitt) at Ferdinand, The furnaces are supplied with 400
liters of water per second from the reservoir on the Bistra River in
the Marul mountains, A pipeline seven kilometers long with a diameter of
60 to 70 cubic centimeters connects the factory to the reservoir, Otelul
Rosu employs 8,000 workers, It is reported that thousands of tons of cast
iron blocks are stockpiled as was emergency materials in this. factory.
A quarry near the Batuta railroad station'on the Mures River supplies building
material for the Sibiu regional branch, Forty workers are employed at the
quarry,
