On 5 March 19539 15 North Korean naval officers returned to the North Korean Navy Staff School at Sosural (N 4+2-16, E 130-36)-after undergoing six months training at a Soviet submarine training center. 2> The first three months of their training included lectures.. on submarine operations, practical training using wooden mock ships, and Communist indoctri- nation.. The final three months included training in communications, torpedo launching and repair and maintenance techniques. The instructors for the North Koreans.were 5....Iieutenant.commanders, 10 lieutenants and 20 noncommissioned officers, all Soviets. Three, Koreans and two Japanese served as interpreters. All training expenses of the North Koreans were paid by the USSR. I+, The training center was two kilometers southeast of.a naval base where the Soviets build submarines. This naval base is two-hours flying time by transport aircraft from Vladivostock. Germans and Japanese work at the heavily guarded naval bases 25X1A 10 omment.
