The Czechoslovakian border guard (PS) unit in Usti is billeted in the Krasne Bre ;no castle and in a villa on Rooseweltova al:ice. Members of the unit are rarely seen in the town except when they visit one local theaures or motion pictures.. 2., It is believed that the PS unit in Decin is billeted in Decin castle? .. ; Apr cximately 25 PS troops occupy the Svycarsky dum hotel in Srleznik.. The e.rdit provides two---man patrols, which check suspicious persons along the high- ways from Sneznik to `Pisa? Ostrov and Max'dorf. In January 1953 a seven to ten-man. SNB post was assigned to Sneznik. The headquarters for the unit is in the Local National Committee (MNV) house. The SNB men check tourists and occasionally cottages and weekend houses in the vicinity. In the Moldava-Cinovec-Vetrov area, members of the P:6 are in evidence. 't'hey check each passenger at the Moidava railroad station and bus terminal Identity documents are examined and travelers are questioned about the purpose of their visit and their length of stay. Ski patrols check skiers in the area, e.;pec1al.Ly those who venture near the border; as well as customers ire res- taurants and ski hostels. Along the border proper, sentries are stationed 50 meters apart, forming a continuous cha_n. They are clad in white ski capes and are armed with submachine guns. No checks are made by these guards, and, If spoken to, they will not reply. The PS unit in Habartice near Fojtovice is quartered in the forcer customs off- ice. The two-story building was built between 1936 and 1938 on a hill in Habartice. It is now one of the-few inhabitable bu3ldin's is the village. The rest of the houses are deserted; the adjacent area is part of the Fojtovice state farm. The PS building is reinforced by a bunker at each corner of the ground floor. Entrance to the bunkers is gained from the cellar, which is built of reinforced concrete. The bunkers have loopholes in their walls. An unidentified police unit is now billeted in Usti at Strekov castle. The men wear the normal army uniform with dark blue or purple insignia. It is be- lieved that their function is simwlar to that of the industrial police; details Of the -unit are at the following plants in U8ti : Chemick'a, Armaturka, the cop-- per plant in ?ovrly and a. power plant in Strekov.
