RD REFERENCES THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITIVE. THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 1. A new Kuehyna airfield was begun near Malacky in May 1951 and, according to the plans, it was to be completed in May 1953. it measures 22 by 2 kilometers and is covered with grass, except for the concrete runways and taxiways. 2. Up to the date of observation there had been no military unit assigned to the new field except for Czech ground personnel who guarded the area. These guards were the new Soviet-type uniforms and were armed with carbines and submachine guns. Their uniforms had no unit numbers Or facings. Sentries were posted at the entrances to the field and at the administration building, 3. In the summer of 1952 the-Kampfflieger Regiment (sic) from Tre .cin trained at this airfield. The Prestanfighter plane regiment from Malacky also trained there in the summer of 1952. It is rumored that the latter unit will occupy the field at the beginning of 1953a 4. The old Kuchyna airfield is to be used in.the future only as a training area for parachute troops, who will live in the new barracks which have been built near that field, 10 Comments Possibly Pies'tarq. Completed concrete runway about 2,000 meters long and 60 meters wide. 9. Runway about 1,600 meters long, 60 meters wide under construction. Th is runway 10. was not completely concreted at the time of observation. Electric illumination of the runway on both sides by mean of fixtures on posts 11. about 30 on. high and spaced about 30 em. from each other. Drainage ditch. 12. Wire fence supported by cement postpa three barbed wire strands along the top. 13. Unloading area for empty gasoline cans and practice bombs. 14. Temporary fuel storage in a wooden building 1~. Temporary storage for technical material in a wooden building. 17. Anti-aircraft dugouts reinforced with timber. 18. Two antennas, both eight meters high, on steel posts on the top of the administration building.
