1. Between 10 January and 15 January 1953 the 1 Soviet Armored Division was
transferred to Timtsoara from the Bucharest area.
The 1 Soviet Armored Division is divided into two brigades,, each composed of
an armored regiment and a fully motorized infantry regiment* The division
ccmamander is Major General. Varganov.
The ],38 Armored Brigades
The 138 Armored Brigade consists of the 7 Armored Regii.ra.mt and the.3 Motorised
Infantry Regiment. The strength of this brigade is about 1,50D men; c er

. The equipment of this brigade consists of 76 JS fI tanks; eight 90 mm guns;..
eight We 11 142 aaatitank. g s 76.2 =I 40 Tokare7 light machine guns;
20 11 12 m heave machine guns; and two "Stalin organ" rocket projectors.
The shoulder boards of the armored regiment are black with light red
decorations; in the infantry regiments fhe color of the uniform with red
decorations and a black stripe. Other troops have bright red shoulder boards
with lilac decorations.

The 176 Armored Brigade:
The 176 Armored Brigade consists of the 22 Armored Regiment and the
17 Motorized Infantry Regiment. It has about 1,500 men.
The equipment of this brigade consists of 83 T-34/85 tanks, eight type 857
tank recovery vehicles., four 90 mm Bans., four type M.43 57 mm antitank guns,
32 Degtyarev M 28 light machine guns., 16 M 42 Maxim, heavy machine guns,
and 16 type M 38 20 mm mortar. The shoulder boards are as in the other
brigade.
