Soviet training units demonstrated artillery firing to a group of Hungarian officers at the firing range near Hajduhadhgz (K 52). The range lies north of the military camp of Hajduhadhhz, in the direction of the village of Balkthny (K63). 2... During the two-day demonstration a new type selfpropelled 10.5 cm. gun was demonstrated. It had the following characteristics: 25 YEAR RE-REVIEW a. Extraordinary maneuverability and low silhouette. b. Rate of firea 12 to 16 rounds per minute. c. Weights 35 tons. d. Length of tube: 425 cm. e. For the defense against a direct attack the gun is-equipped with a 20 mm. machine gun. f. The gun commander and a crew of five men communicate with each other with the aid of a microphone and ear phones* g. The two-way radio of the selfpropelled gun has a range of 60 Son. 21 May 1953 h. The gun is powered with a diesel engine. i. Traction is extremely powerful. In sand or muddy terrain the gun can travel at speeds ranging up to 39 - 40 km. per hour. j. Armor-piercing shell6 fired from a distance of 2,500 m. penetrated a 24 cm. thick armored plate, which was set up in a slanting position. (The soft steel cap, welded to the nose of the armor-piercing shell enables it to attach itself to the target no matter what the angle of impact may be.
