'. Of the `state-owned locomotives, 22 were parked as a reserve for the
Directorate Generals, rRailro..?dss Berlins and 11 for the regional rail-
road headquarters. 2
Of the column locomotives;, 224 were operational and 99 were being kept
cold as a -eserve.3
4. Seven state--owned locomotives and 30 foreign-owned locomotives were
deactivated in February 19530

5. A total of 153 locomotivea of various types was hired out to industrial
enterprises for factory requirements.4
Ho compa-
rable data are available for January 1953. As compared with December 1952,
the number of state-owned locomotives decreased by 6 units, which were
deactivated; 16 locomotives from the park of damaged locomotives were
transferred to the park of operational locomotives. The park of damaged
locomotives decreased by 22 units, while the park of operational locomo-
tives increased by 6 units. The total number of column locomotives re-
mained constant while the number of serviceable column locomotives increased
.by 15. The total of foreign-owned locomotives decreased by 31 units which
were deactivated. See paragraph 4 of the present report. These locomotives
were probably deactivated in connection with the scheduled scrapping of
25X1 209 locomotives. The total number
of narrow-gauge locomotives increased by 2 units, which are probably
newly manufactured equipments,

by 4 and 11 units respectively, which indicates an improvement of the
locomotive situation in cast Germany?
