(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 25X1X I. there was a machine shop 600 meters east of the number 6 wharf on the north bank of the Min River in the area of Foochow known as Chienhsingwei (1696/5281/1442). The area of the shop was surrounded by a bamboo fence approximately 6 feet high. The only gate in the fence faced the river and a single guard in the area was stationed at this gate. Inside the fence was a large building which housed the machine shop in which 70 to 80 men worked. The shop had several large lathes and some smeltinglequipment. Many motor junks were tied up on the river below the area and the engines of the Junks were removed, placed on carts, and pulled up the river bank by teams of seven coolies. Steel plates of from 1 to 2 inches thick were also taken into the shop. Many trucks arrived at the shop. Although there was no paved road into this river, paved road did go to an electric power station approximately 300 yards to the west. 2. On 24 January there was a power station2 near the number 6 wharf in Foochow which had one generator with a capacity of 1,500 kilowatts. There had been two generators in this plant, but in order to make it safe from Nationalist bombings, one had been sent to Yangchung (3152/0022), where it was stored in a two story building constructed of sheet steel and with a canvas roof. The sheet steel for the construction of this storage building was taken from the oil companies near the power plant in Foochow. 25X1A 1. Comment. Possibly welding equipment is meant. 2. Comment.
