The following air activity was observed at Brandenburg-Briest airfield from 19
through 8 April 1953%
19 to 21 March. Jet planes took off at irregular intervals from the field Aircrai%..
towing an air sleeve were repeatedly seen. The air sleeve would be dropped over the
field before the tow plane landed. Night flying was also observed, The weather was
fair.
2 to 28 March. There was day fl ing in generally fair weather. Night flying was
observed on two days of the period involved.

for flights beyond the field. YdG-15s towing an air sleeve were repeatedly seen

weather became dull. 'he ceiling was at an altitude of 800 to 1,000 meters. 25X1
2 April,,. About twenty 30 minute flights -,rere made by MLG 15 and type-29 aircraft
In the morning, weather was dull with the ceiling at
500 to 600 meters. In the afternoon it rained heavily.

25X1 2. On 6 Aprils the two masts west of the single-story temporary
building at the radar installations had been removed. Halfway between this building
and the other two masts two pits had bee?:a dug out. Earth walls about two meters hig3-:,>
covering an area of about 7 x 8 meters and covered with camouflage nets were seen. fr
area 100 x 150 meters around the single-itory temporary building was sur:*ounded '

sub-machine gun. The barking of dogs was heard but no dogs were seen.2

Flying at the-field followed the usual patterns It is interesting to note that
air-to-air firing by Mi.G-15s was practioed with air sleeves towed by iti.G-l5so
Slower aircraft are now seldom used as target tow planes. The same observation,
which reflects on the firing efficiency of Soviet fighter pilots,, was also mK.d
at other East German airfields

2.Commentr Detailed. information on this radar station was transmitted

was believed that the installation consisted of two SCR-6O2 sets and two Yagi
type antennas, However, the equipment of the installation has not been
definitely determined.
