2. It is not known whether the Tansyk-Semipalatinsk line is single-or double-
tracked. The Karaganda-Balkhish sector apparently is double-tracked, but
this is not known for certain. It is not known if any stations besides
the one at Karkaralinsk'were constructed. Track-laying at Karaganda station
was done by other crews. The passenger station is on the west side of town,
east of the main line. It has two covered platforms, each having two tracks,
and there are pedestrian bridges over the tracks. The station building was
of stone, 30-35 m long, and had two rows of windows. There were eight to
ten sidings west of the through line which were 300-400 m long. West of the
sidings, almost opposite the passenger station, was the freight station,
containing many ramps, sheds, and a coaling installation. South of the
freight station was the locomotive shed, which had about fifteen entrances.
South of the locomotive' shed was a large water tank made of steel sheeting,
mounted on a brick base. Under the tank was a h6ating installation to pre-
vent the water for the locomotives from freezing.

Airfield Construction (May-June 1950)
3. There is an airfield 300-400 m northeast of Tokarevka (N 50-06, E 73-08).
The field is of packed earth, surrounded by a concrete runway 40-50 m
wide. The dimensions of the field were about 1000 (north/south) x 300m,
but an extension apparently was being carried out toward the north, as
Soviet soldiers and civilians were leveling the ground; the length of
.the extension was not determined. Aircraft were occasionally seen taking
off and landing.
