1. The 5 Rifle Regiment. The active section of this regiment has been in the area of
Deta, Ciacova and Parta since the beginning of 1952.
Commander: Colonel Emilian Novacesu
Adjutant: Major Cornel Ciordaci.
Divided into four battalions of four companies each, one of which is a heavy weapons
company. The companies have two platoons of four squads each.
Strength: About 900 men. Rifle companies have four light ZB 38 machine guns and
two German 08 heavy machine guns. The heavy weapons companies have
four heavy Maxim machine guns and _ f our Russian 82 mm mortars.
Shoulder boards have light green decorations.

built before World War I. and consists of two four-story buildings, 40 by 20 me

the adjutant i s ajor Toma Chisiu. Strength about 600 men, with 28 Russian in-
structors. Divided into two battalions of four companies each, one of which is a
heavy weapons company. The rifle companies have four light M.28 Degtyarev machine
guns and two heavy German M.34 machine guns. The weapons companies have four
heavy Maxim M.10 machine guns, and four M.41 mortars. The unit is not motorized.
It conducts daily exercises.,
2. The 1 Cavalry Regiment, in the Pacii Barracks, Timisoara I, Strada Ardealului 39.

Strength: About 700 men. Divided into four squadrons. Has light weapons, in-
cluding Cugir carbines and machine pistols

25X1 3. The 38 Gun Regiment, in the Tudor Vladimirescu Barracks, Strada Ardealului 47.
Same type of building as the Pacii Barracks.
Commander: Colonel Gheorghe Topa
Adjutant: Major Constantin Ghinescu.
Strength: 500 men, 300 horses. Divided into two battalions of three batteries
each,, each battery having four 155 mm howitzers. Up to February 1953
this regiment was stationed along the border in the area Ghiroc-Timis-
oara-Sacalaz. On 3 February 1953 it. was relieved by the 2 Gun Regiment
from the Ineu Garrison.
4. The 7 Engineer Regiment, in the Huniada Barracks, Pia.ta Huniada 3.

Commander: Lt. Col. Avram Avraescu
Adjutant: Captain Matei Borlovan.
Divided into three battalions of four companies each.
Strength: About 800 men. The regiment is building fortifications along the
border; the barracks holds only replacement troops.
Shoulder boards are decorated in white.
5. The 23 AAA Regiment, in the V.I. Lenin Barracks, Timisoara I, Calea Aradului 73.
A new four-story building about 40 by 25 m.
Commander: Colonel Vasile Chiriloiu
Adjutant: Captain Vlad Almasan
Strength: 650 men. Divided into two batta]; bns,of four batteries each. Each
battery has four 85 mm guns.
6. The 21 Armored Regiment in the I.V. Stalin Barracks, Calea Aradului 75.
A new four-story building about 40 by 25 m.
Commander: Colonel Anastasie Copsila
Adjutant: Major Grigorea Purcea,
Divided into two battalions of four companies each.
Even numbered companies have T-34s of the old model; odd numbered companies
