THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. 25X1X (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 25X1X 1- Chinese Communist installations and defenses at Weichou Island (N 21-02, E 109-02) were as follows: a. There were three typhoon shelters along the northern coast at Tungkungshou (2639/2162/2087), Hsikungshou (6007/2162/2087), and Peihuanpei (5151+/3883/ 5154); and more than 60 shipbuilding facilities near Peihuanpei. b. Two concrete surfaced breakwaters, each approximately 3,000 meters long, were on the southeast side of the island. c. Navigation signals and floating lights were in the water between Weichou Island and Sheyangehan (5711.8/5017/111.72). d. One company of approximately 150 men of the Chinese Communist 11.3 Army were based on the summit of Huantingshan (3883/7307/111.72), which is in the center of .Weichou Island'. There wee a radio station and a meterological observatory on the summit of; Huantingshan. 2. Of the island's 11,000 residents, approximately 3,000 were organized into several defense corps similar to the Chinese Communist militia units.
