Members of the Soviet military mission in Mangalia are quartered in the hotels formerly called Regina Maria, Imparatul Traian, Imperial, and Regale Ferdinand. 2. In early 1953 .there were 18 concrete submarine shelters between Ilanlac and Mangalia. Ten others were under construction. Between Ilanlac and Ilie Pintilie there are torpedo tubes protected by concrete shelters at sea level. There are also ramps for self-propelled missiles on the slopes. 3e In the fall'of 1952 work was started on the construction of "floating batteries" at the entrance to the port of Mangalia. Approximately 1,500 meters north of Mangalia and to the west of the galia- .Constantaeroad there is an airfield with a concrete runway. This field was improved durin g'the summer of 1952. There are vast underground reservoirs here with an approximate capacity of 5,000 tank cars. Other airfields without concrete runways are located at the following towns: Chiragit about 20 kilometers west of Mangalia Azaplar, about 20 kilometers northwest of Mangalia Gherengec,.about 17 kilometers north-northweat'of Mangalia There is a Soviet pursuit unit stationed at each of these fields. Twelve Soviet seaplanes are stationed about two kilometers southwest of Mangalia. . 6, There is a radar station near Checige (sic) about two kilometers southwest of Mangalia. 7.
