1. The Times of Ind rte es,a.reported that Miss Kartinah left for the Peiping Peace
Conference on September 1952* In early 1952 a Mrs. Kart inch was elected,
he.Middle Java branch of GERWIS for 1952, according to
reported. that Mrs. Kartinah was a member of the Social Afi'aira
partment of the Pegaden Baru branch of the Persatuan Marhaen Indonesia
(PERMAI) in August 1950.
on 4 February 1953 an Indonesian broadcast reported that Mrs. Kartowijono
was president of the new central co WARI. In March 1950 she
was chairman of the Djakarta branch It is difficult to categorize
PMWARI as right- or left-.wing since a ovember 1950 conference of Kongress
Wanita Indonesia, a federation of womens groups of which Mrs, Kartowijonno
was Secretary Ill,' PERWARI was against joining the Womenta International

Democrat.ic,Federation (WIDF)., but not opposed to membership in the Committee
for World Peace? At the PERWARI congress in January 1953 it resolved to
ma ntain itself as a nonpolitical social-economic organ, but on the other
hand decided to try to obtain the largest possible representation in
Parliament.
''In addition to her PERWARI activities, Mrs. Kartowijono has been a supporter
of world peace movements the Committee ld Peace, the 25X1 A
Stockholm Peace Movement , and WIDF As of 11 March 1953
she was appointed a member o the Jest Java Leg s a ve Assembly, according
to? an Indonesian broadcast.
A Mrs. B. Jusupadi (possibly the same as Mrs: Jusup Hadi) was reported to
be the leader of the All-Indonesian Women's Conference in Djakarta in July
19+6 on the Partai Nasional Indonesia (PNI) Governing, Council
in Sep-cemaer 9 and an important leader of PERWARI in November
1950.
