2. In the spring of 19529 the Czech Ministry of National Defense initiated a program
to iuduoe 18--year-,old males to become officers in the Czech Army. Applicants first
had to, pass a thorough loyalty test and were then enlisted in the Army for a six-
year period. The first two years were spent in 0CS9 and the last four years serving
with border units or other units deemed important by the Ministry of National Defense.
2. In the spring of 1952, a drive was held at the Autorenova factory in. Prague to
induce ex-offi.oears and NCOs to return to active duty. A number of ex-officers and
NC0s, who responded 'to this call and passed a rigid political examination., were
25X1 given ranks higher than those which they had previously held.

4. In March 1953, two reserve NCOs who worked Il at the Autorenova
25X1 factory were recalled to active duty.. They were to take reserve.
training, from .9 to 30 March 1953, in the vicinity of Pilsen. During
the time they were training, the factory was required to make-up their
pay differences. 'Since each received approximately,3,000-crowns per.
month at the factory and only 390 crowns per month while on active
duty, the factory was.required to pay each one 2,610 crowns during
the period they were on active.dut The two corporals were from

5. persons discharged
25X1 from the service did not have to take reserve training for two years
after discharge. They were,. however, required to take reserve
training after that time ,The reason given for this was that 'a
person would not forget-the training be had received in the army in
two years, but. after that time he was apt to forget many things
the army had' taught him. I
