10 In March 1953, the clearing of woods to an undetermined extent was under way in the
area between Jocksdorf? Preschnn and GrosseKoelzig. The roads leading to this areag
particularly the Jocksdorf-Preschen road, was blocked by civilian guard personnel.
Only workers with a permit of the Bezirksamt in Forst had admittance to the blocked
terrain.
2. The railroad eMbankment which branched off to the east from the Forst-Doebern railroad
line south of Simmerederf had sunk in the marshy area southeast of Simmersdorf in the
Winter of 1952/1953 and, therefore, had to be raised repeatedly. In March, only an
800-meter standard-gauge spur track was laid from the branch-off point while narrow-
gauge field rails were still there. Some rails of the standard-gauge track were welded
-
3. Red-white surveyor pegs were put into the ground along the Gross-Schacksdorf-freschen
road in line with Jocksdorf. A row of poles, about 1 meter high p 15 am in diameter aril
30 to 40 meters apart extended in a vest-easterly direction between Gross-Schacksdorf
and the edge of the woods south of Gross-Schacksdorf.
4. A meadow in the woods about 1.5 km southeast of Jocksdorf was merged in a
clearing which extended to the northeast as far as the Gross-Schacksdorf-Preschen
road in the vicinity of Jocksdorf. In April, the clearing including the meadow
measured about 3,000 x 600 meters.
50 A tent camp surrounded by a barbed-wire fence and watchtowers was located in the
southern corner of the above mentioned meadow? This camp was allegedly occupied by
German convicts who were employed as construction workers. Low wooden buildings were
being erected on the northern edge of the meadow adjacent west to the buildings of
the former flax mill. Construction material arrived there.
6. In April, the road between Simmersdorf and the southern section of Gross-Schacksdorf
was improved for utilization of heavy vehicles. At the same time, a dirt road which
25X1X branched off to the south toward Gosda was being paved. A narrow-gauge field railway
extended from the sand hills near Mattendorf into the clearing mentioned above.
7. The construction staff of the airfield which was previously quartered in the vicinity
of SimMeredorf railroad station moved to Jocksdorf in early April .?A detail of about
200 VP mon.was.quartered at the construction site. It was rumored in early April, -
that more than l000 convicts were to be hauled to the construction site.
