A single Soviet cruiser was observed, during poor visibility, five nautical miles
25X1 A which was about 15 nautical miles north of
Kahlberg (N 54- , -27). The cruiser had a raking stern, two slanting
stacks, and a massive, squat connin6bridge; its armament consisted of two
gun turrets on the forediok, and two others on the after deck. There was
a structure on the oonning bridge stop the range tinder (sio),whtch,-source believed,
was a radar scanner. The cruiser' steered various courses at very low
speed, and turned away to the east.

It cannot be determined whether the cruiser was a new
OT cruiser, or the CHLU OY. Another large ship, probably a cruiser,
was sighted in the same area on 17 January 1953.
