1. The 3 Antiaircraft Regiment, is stationed in barracks
at the eastern edge of Yambol, along the Yambol-Karnobat road. The
regiment is commanded by a Soviet colonel who speaks Bulgarian fluently.
2. The antiaircraft regiment is composed of the following three battalions:
a. The 1 Heavy Battalion., consisting of two batteries, each equipped
with four 88 mm. Krupp guns-
b. The 2 Heavy Battalion, consisting of two batteries, each armed with
four 76.2 mm. guns of Soviet manufacture delivered in 1950, and an
unidentified number of 88 mm. guns which are stored; commanding officer
is a Bulgarian., Major TENEV, a former resistance fighter who is
disliked by his men; and
c. The 3 Light Battalion, consisting of four 20 mm. guns of German origin.1
The 88 mm. and 76.2 mm. guns are drawn by Soviet tractors, while the light
guns are drawn by motor trucks.
3. The regiment is equipped with the following vehicles:
a. Approximately 12 Opel-Blitz motor trucks;
b. Four Soviet passenger cars; one for the regimental commander, another
for the political commissar; and
c. A bus for staff use.

The men are armed with 8.8 mm. Mannlicher carbines and Soviet-type
submachine guns.
~. The following legend refers to a sketch of the garrison included as
Appendix A on page 3.
1. A 2-storey regimental headquarters; in addition to the staff
offices, a radio station is located on the ground floor.
2. Two 2-storey brick buildings, approximately 60 x 20 meters in size,
used as company barracks.
3. A guard house.
4. A kitchen, bakery, and mess hall.
5. Storerooms for rations and clothing.
6. Repair and technical shops, with lathes and other machines for
overhauling vechiclee and weapons.
7. Garages for tractors and motor vehicles.
8. One-storey brick buildings used as gun sheds.
9. Annuunition depots, and concrete bunkers surrounded by shrubbery.
10. A sick ward.
U. An underground fuel dump (two tanks of different size, capacity
unknown); approximately 20-50 barrels of oil and fuel are also
always kept in stock.
