Thus. .::,st German supplies of silica rock in 1953 will probably amount
to U,,S60metric tons, whereas actually a total of 26,412 metric tons
is required. Imports of silica rock from cep Soviot satellites txlii
amount to about 4,525 metric tons in 1953, and an additional 1,374
metric tons from nest Germany and 238 tons from Czechoslovakia can
be counted one A total of 19,755 metric tons of silica rock will
therefore be available in 1953. Of this amount, however, 758 metric
tons from is so poor qualitatively, that the figure can be
reduced to' 19$ i metri c tons.
3. The needs of the Ministry of :iini.ip and Smelting for the first half of
1953 amount to 11,328 metric tons. Total Last German production and
imparrts 'or that same period amount to only 8,020 metric tong. The

Ministry as therefore suggested that cast Germa.iy attempt to obtain
an additional 1,500 metric tons from Czechosloakia during the first
two quarters of 1953? It has further requested that the possibility
of obtainii.rr 1,37!1 metric tons of rock for metallurgical use, as pro-
vided for in the economic plan, by exp}cited to the fullest. If the
,1inistrr is provided with these amounts of silica rock, its plants
.all be ib3 to operate as planned for 5 to 60 days.
