(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 25X1A 29 July 1953 RD 25X1A ?I am unable to give OB information or-pinpoint military installations in the Mukachevo (N 48-26, E 22-43) area, except for the location of military barracks and certain other installations, such as the MB headquarters, which I have indicated on the sketch on page 3. 2. Concerning the militia,, I believe that one or two militia men were assigned to each village in the Carpatho-Ukraine; they were usually stationed at the town hall. The number of militia men assigned was determined by the size of the village. Villages would be organized together under sectors, and the sectors in turn under areas. Sector headquarters would be located in the largest village of that sector. A sergeant was usually the commander of a sector. The Mukachevo militia head- quarters was located on Lenin Street. Areas were further subordinate to the 25X1A razianal ast) militia headquarters which was in Uzhgorod 25X1A The commanding officer of the Mukachevo militia was a or 5X1A SKOROBOGATKO (fnu) and his assistant was Sr. Lt. NESHERET (fnu) 25X1A I believe that only those who have already complete ermilitary ce were accepted into the militia of Mukachevo. a, The militia did not have the authority to arrest a civilian Party member or a member of the armed forces. b. Peace and law enforcement duties within each village were performed by the sector militia, All informers reported to them, co Peace and law enforcement duties within towns and cities, issuance and verification of passports, registration of the civilian population and of motor vehicles, inspection of all motor vehicles in the area or region, supervision of 25X1A sectors, and investigation and arrest of suspected civilians were performed by both the area and regional militia.
