Village Cooperative at Novoselets
Village cooperatives (Selkoop) are formed with the capital of individual share-
holders. Profits from these cooperatives are not distributed but are converted
into capital. They pay 12 percent of the profits to the central government as well
as excise taxes. They pay 20 percent of their profits to the RKS (Rayonen Koopera-
tiven Suyuz; Area Cooperative Union) of which they are branches. The cooperatives
cell all types of consumer goods with the exception of items such as medicines.
The RKS manages the Selkoops in its areas buys village produce and sells consumer
goods. it pays 36 percent of its profits to the TsKS (Tsentralen Kooperativen
S'yuz; Central Cooperative Union) tr conversion into capital. The remaining
profit is divided between the Ministry of Finance and a fund to the account of
the shareholders.
The TsKS controls the RKS organizations and is one of the agencies determining
Bulgarian domestic and foreign trade.
The Novoselets Selkoop "Podkreparo was formed in 1927 with 300 members and
1,000,000 leva (old currency). This cooperative dealt only in essential goods
and by 1953 as a result of interest payments from the National Bank, had a
capital of 8,000,000-10,000,000 lava (old currency).
