SOURCE:
1. Increased security measures are being taken on the borders of the
Russian sector of Berlin. There are double patrols of the KVP on the
main streets and strengthened guards, armed with carbines, at the rail-
road stations near the borders. Rumors have spread among the population
that the closing of the border is imminent.
2. It is being rumored in East Berlin that the food packages obtained in
West Berlin are to be confiscated, beginning at 5:00 P.M. on 27 July.
3. It is reported that me:Dbers of the FDJ planned to infiltrate West Berlin
in the morning of 29 July for the purpose of causing disturbances during
the distribution of food parcels to the east-sector population. This
was intended to be a large-scale operation, in which the FDJ groups were
to mingle in the early morning hours with those crossing the sector
boundary to collect food parcels. It is understood that the West Berlin
police have been informed of this plan.
