1. The Gheorghiu De3 garment factory in Bucharest, formerly the APACA, is con rolled
by the Ministry of Light Industry. It is located at 7 Bulevardul Facii (f~~rmerly
Bulevardul Regele Alexaridru). The nearest railway station is the Dealul ~~irei
station, located approximately one kilometer southeast of the factory,
2, The factory produces garments. Three-fourths of the. output, composed of military
uniforms, underwear and shirts are destined for the Rumanian armed forces. The
remainder of the production is for the civilian market.
3. The factory is located in two four-story buildings and a smaller building
located in the south factory site. One building houses the workshop, gara~,e
and dispensary, and another houses the administration offices.

The factory is supplied with blue and khaki cloth by the Republica factory in
Botosani. The material for underwear is brought from the Flamura Rosie factory
in Arad. Buttons and similar accessories, are supplied by the Gornezit factory in
Bucharest.
The factory is supplied by an electric power station equipped with eleetrie:
generators. The generators produce 38flY AC, which, operates the engines and
machines of the factory. Electric current for the factory illumination is
supplied by the city power net. A steam unit heats the factory and the fue-:
is stored in a large underground tank. Eventually the heating of the facte~ry
will be by natural gas.

was equipped with five lathes of different sizes and two polishing machine?., besides

various ms.chine tools. The fantory had 12 trunks; three Zis, four Praga, ~,hree
Blitz and two Clockner Mercedes. A small bus was used by the sport teams cif the
factory. Five sedans, including a Hudson for the Director and a Cadillan ~:or
the President of the Syndicate were among those operated by the factory.
The factory products were stored i n warehouse under the two main buildings

g. The factory employed 13;000 workers on two daily shifts. The first shift worked
from 0660 to l.L~.00 hours; the second from 1.1}.00 to 2200. The average salary of a
worker was 490 lei per month (new currency). The workers were given medical.
assistance and prizes for better than satisfactory work. The factory was awarded
the Labor Flag (Drapelul Muneii) in May 1952 for increased production, Generally,
the workers were satisfied with work conditions but complained about salaries.
10. The fantory guard consisted of approximately 150 militia organized in roving
patrols which guard the factory day and night. Access to the factory 'is F~ex7nitted
only upon presentation of an entry card for which each worker must provide: a
photograph affixed to a sheet of paper. The seal of the factory is appli~?d to
half the photograph. The name of the worker and his section is written in longhand
below the photograph.
