Industrial railroad tracks lead into.the area. Weapons and Parts Being Stored hi'the'cellar 6fthe main storage house (No. 4 in the attached sketch) there is the so-called secret depot, which is continuously guarded by. two sentries. It is said that new-type weapons are stored there. These weapons are brought in and taken away at regular intervals .by troops not t off to out- i t s cu ioned at the depot;; the nearby surrounding area sta siders during such transports. The following weapons are known to be stored at the depot: 1) 4,000 Soviet-type light machine guns, known as Type 48 in the Hungarian Army, which is equipped with then; these light machine .guns are manufactured by the Lampart Factory in Budapest. 2) About l5,000 Soviet-type rifles; 3) About 16,000 Soviet type submachine guns with drum magazines, made in Hungary; 4) About 10#000 pieces of German and Italian small arms are stored in a captured weapons de-not; however,.only a part of them is in good working condition's Sp]CRETICONTROL - U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY STATE X ARMY I X NAVY X IAIR X FBI AEC (Note: Washington Distribution Indicated By "X"; Field Distribution By "#".) m Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2009/12/15: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA002000630007-3 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2009/12/15: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA002000630007-3 SECRET/CONTROL U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY 5) Large stocks of spare parts for artillery guns used by the Hungarian Army, mainly breech mechanisms and spare-gun barrels for Soviet-type 76 mm. and 122 mm. guns. This depot also has a work shop, where guns are overhauled; six medium guns can be overhauled or repaired there at the same time. In the depot yard (No. 6 in the sketch), almost 1,000 guns of various calibers are stored closely together under tarpaulins. The estimated breakdown of these is as follows: 6) 120 Soviet long-barrel guns, 152 mm. 75 70 Soviet long-barrel guns, 122 mm. 8) 150 Soviet howitzers, 122 mm. 9) 140 Soviet howitzers, 105 mm. 10) 50 Hungarian Bofor biaircraft:guns, 88 mm. 1. ;) 180 Soviet antitank guns, 76 mm. made in Dibsgynr 12) 200 German recoil-absorber antitank guns, 76 mm. 131 'In addition, three Soviet 131 mm. automatic guns were seen in the depot yard. These guns, hitherto unknown to the Hungarian Army were to-be used to train teams of Hungarian soldiers in their opera- teon. POD in''one of the storage houses on the south side of the depot area there is an oil depot, where about 80 carloads of machine oil, high-grade oil, diesel oil, and various types of fuel and alcohol are stored. Source of Material Until recently, the entire supply of the weapons depot came from the Soviet Union;. however, there has been much talk that in the near future most of the Soviet-type arms destined for the Hungarian Army are to be made in Hungary. 5a Personnel a. All in all, about 100 soldiers and 350 civilians are working at the depot. The civilians live outside the grounds, but the soldiers are quartered in the upper floors of the depot buildings. Each of these courses is attended by about 50 men, of whom half are noncommissioned officers and half are enlisted men from various units.
