1. The local Socialist movement continues to be active. Two regular publica-
tions are issued, the Gaoeta Colombians, a bimonthly paper, and an infor-
mation sheet which normally comes out weekly. The Gaceta is under the
supervision of Armando SUESCUN and Aniilcar GUIDO whir the information
letter is ireoted by Guillermo COLL. Efforts at this time

Regional assemblies were held during April 1953 in Bogota and Cartagena,
and a similar meeting is being planned for Cali. Antonio GARCIA and'Luis
Emiro VALENCIA,.. the movement's most important leaders, left Bogo-ta'tor '
Ibague on 14 July, and they plan to visit.Manizales, Cali, and'other towns
in Valle and Caldas. They will hold meetings, review the activities of
local committees, and agitate for the movement's program.
2. President Gustavo ROJAS Pinilla received a delegation of Socialists. on
7 July. The latter informed the President that their chief task at this
time is the formation of a party which weld confront (sip) the two
traditional parties, as well as international Communism. They stated
that the local. movement has a strictly national character. Included
in the delegation were GARCIA, VALENCIA, Jorge VILLA,-Jaime TELLO, Ruben
DARIO Utria, Luis CIPAGAUTA, Fidel TORRES Leon, Carlos J. TINA, and
representatives of the sectional committees of Cali, Barranquilla, Ibague,
Manizales, and Bucaramanga.
3.. A new National Executive Committee for 1953 was recently elected. GARCIA
continues as director, and VALENCIA as secretary-general. Other members
are DARIO, Francia LOPEZ, Victor M. RINCON, and Arcadio LOPEZ. 'A publioa-
tion fund was recently set up under the name-of-Tomas URIBE Marquez for
the purpose of assuring the financing of'socialist works and providing
for efficient distribution in Colombia and abroad. Dr. Enrique ZAPATA
is the director of the fund.

Socialists had sent oongratulat'ions-to those of Colombia for laving offered
urirestrioted aid to President ROJAS. GARCU grid VALENCIA immediately sent
an angry letter to the Argentine Embassy stating that the report was com-
pletely false and that its publication on represents an abuse and an unpardon-
able impudence. It was added that the A eg ncia had repeatedly invented
incorrect notioes.whioh have affected the reality and orientation of-
Colombian Socialism. The Agenoia proceeded to correct the information
immediately.
