It is believed that the troop trains hauled headquarters units of the Third Shock Army,, possibly signal units, to the command post exercises conducted in the Rathenow area and extending to the Elbe River and toward north. The receiving station indicates that the troop train 0 25X1 carried an AAA unit of the 12th Gds Tank Div, The t-'oop train from Welzow probably transported a melium air force AAA unit to Wustrow for combat firing practice o 3.F---1,,Cmmment? All troop trains probably carried light AAA units of the Fourth Gds Mecz Army which were to conduct combat firing practices at Jueterboga The troop trains are commented on as follows: The train-is reported for the first time, An AAA unit of the 7th Gds Mecz Div was probably loaded on the train, I The trains were previously observed hey possibly carried AAA units of the 25th Tank Div and/or 8th Gds Mecz Div, The trains were previously reported ithe first train, oweverr, with Wolmirstedt as dispatching station and Halle as receiving station; and the other train as bound for the Halle railroad district, 95AI hese trains probably carried tank units of the 21st Gds Mecz Div which returned to their home stations, However, Jueterbog as receiving station proves that this version 25X1 was incorrect, It is oelievedd that the trains act ly went to Jueterbog via Dessau which belongs to the Halle railroad district, and that the trains probably carried AAA units of the 10th Gds Tank Div, Probably AAA units of the 7th Gds Tank Div move from Haldensleben to Jueterbog-Altes Lager, 5,ornnent According to observations in Eberswalde the train carried elements of the 312th Gds RL Regt, 2X1 6, Comment The train possibly carried a light air force AAA unit from 25X1 ran to Jueterbog-Altes Lager. 7. Coma-ens This troop train was previously observed. It appears rather improbable that, 25X1 the train should have carried air force personnel only; all the more as only- soldiers with red-bordered black epaulets were observed on the train 8. I ommen& as the train was dispatched from Icroepelin which is believed to be correct. 0 SECRET/CONTR.OL - U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY Approved For Release 2006/01/12 : CIA-RDP80-00810A002100580008-7 Approved For Release 2006/01/12 : CIA-RDP80-00810A002100580008-7 SECRET/CONTROL - U.S, OFFICIALS ONLY 9. JComment, These troop trains transferred the bomber corps of 6 regiments and 1 air force reconnaissance regiment previously stationed in East Germany, Thus, the present report confirms the observations that the IL-28 units vacated the airfields at Werneuchen, Brand, Welzow, Finsterwalde and Jueterbog. It is assumed that all units transferred to the USSR. Indications, however, are available only for units previously 10aCo On 22 May 1953, new rocket launchers from the USSR were ?tnat the former equipment was shipped to Jue~terbog. In late June 1953, old rocket launchers were also shipped to Jueterbog by the 90th RL Regt (US) from Schoenwalde, U. [---Comment. The two troop trains probably carried contingents of the rak Div which had been employed in Oranienburg during the riots on and after 17 June 1953 and, returned to Templin, 25X1 12. Still . another source stated that, on 1 July 1953, two troop trains were dispatched from the Templin troop training grounds. The present report indicates that the movement included three trains. The troop train 25X1 observed being loaded at Bernau and passing through the Eberswalde railroad 25X1 station. It is believed that elements of the 3rd Er..gr Regt and 194th Engr Bn of the 25th Tank Div moved from the Teraplin area to the Tangerhuette area for field exercises on the western bank of the Elbe River. 134 Comment. The troop train probably carried tanks of the 6th Gds Tank Div. 14. [ Gpmment. See 16, L_JCommentz These troop trains carried medium AAA units of the 63rd AAA Div (US) and 2nd Gds MA Div which returned to Fuerstenwalde and Rehagen- Klausdorf respectively., 25X1 Comment, On 6 and 7 July 1953, the dispatching of several troop trains grit components of the 9th Gds Tank Div from Neustrelitz to Jerichow was reported th a source and by another source.1 _J 25X1 As the were not 25X1 reported in the reference report, the two troop trains to Jerichow in the present report are probably observed for the first time. 18. Comment. By late June 1953, the bomber units previously stationed at Werneuchen had vacated Werneuchen airfield,, Other observations stated that, up to 10 July 1953, several MIG-15 arrived at Werneuchen airfield It appears possible that the troop train belonged to a rail movement in conjunction with a reoccupation of Werneuchen airfield by a fighter unit.
