In the afternoon on 7 July 1953, about 250 KVPs wearing red-bordered epaulets ar black collar patches who were armed with submachine guns and carried baggage arrived from the direction of Cottbus at the Weisswasser railroad station. At p.m.. they were trucked awa ff7 2. On 9 July 1953, Camp Nochten was occupied by about 1,500 men who, for the most part,- came from Halle while the others came from Loebau. Colonel Paul Baum, who wore green- -bordered epaulets and green collar patches and lived in a private house in lNochtern, was camp commander. The units from Halle were under the c:r Basso Hell who wore red-bor and black co3lar patches. 3. Billeting equipment stored at the Weisewasser ration supply depot was reshipped to Camp Ioehten during the period of observation. The troops were seen engaged in guard duty and construction work at the camp and the training grounds. Motor vehicles seen in Weisswasser from 4 to 7. July included: Trucks Je "Ps mbulance 25X1 t 2 a.m..on 6 July, 4 T-34-tanks passed through Weisewasser toward Spriiberg. 3 KVP units moved from Ghemnitz, Leipzig and Zittau to the coast ooze iltic sea rrom 17 to 20 June.. 4 Commet. When the troops departed for employment against the riots in mid-June 1953, the billeting equipment had tanporari3'y been stored at the ration supply depot.
